PSG Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the prestigious cup on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck twice late to take a shock advantage. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all converted with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
